Strolling Through Town

You first notice the distinctive architecture.

A campus feel because of how deliberate it all seems. Structures are smartly designed, never more than two stories, with tastefully weathered cedar shingles. Hidden lofts and studios lurk above, storefronts with cleverly adorned porches and outdoor benches below.

A look that’s unassuming, classy, yet funky enough to make you take notice.

You will see randomly placed birdhouses atop tall poles, dog water bowls (ice in ‘em during summer months), huge hanging flower baskets, even poetic thoughts inscribed here and there. Unexpected small details are prominent, such as winding shortcuts between buildings that go from stepping stone rock to gravel with stunning flower beds along the way.

What is not here, what is absent, is an attraction in and of itself. Signage is always small, often carved or hand painted, with neon a definite no-no.

Since everyone is in the midst of their unhurried “experience,” manners are on display with drivers respectfully stopped at intersections politely waving pedestrians on.
