Named for the Clatsop tribe of Native Americans, Clatsop County covers 1,085 square miles in northwest Oregon and is home to 37,000 residents. The Oregon Territory was created in 1848 and Oregon became the 33rd US state on February 14, 1859. Oregon offers a diverse landscape including the Pacific coastline, the rugged Cascade Mountain range, and high desert across much of the eastern portion of the state.
