Ever wondered who lives in Cannon Beach? The answer may surprise you.
A broad swathe of noted artists, musicians and chefs make their homes here, to be sure, but this town attracts year-round and partial-year inhabitants of all stripes, types and inclinations (retirees, lawyers, writers, activists, architects, and more than one professor emeritus).
Visit this space often since we’re always refreshing this list! But for now, here’s a few notables:
Local chef and restaurateur John Newman, owner of Newman’s at 988 and the new Fishes Sushi & Japanese Cuisine, has garnered an international following for his meals of distinction and his no-fuss approach to fine dining. Cannon Beach offers an abundance of fresh ingredients and great surfing, besides, he says.
Photographer and entrepreneur George Vetter has kept downtown bustling for decades. In 1987, Vetter broke ground on Hemlock Street’s Village Center; today it is still a go-to pocket of local commerce. Vetter continues his loyal promotion of the area and is never spotted without his expensive camera.
Meanwhile, Bruce’s Candy Kitchen owners Brian and Kelly Taylor are keeping Cannon Beach all in the family: the pink-and-white candy shop has been in Kelly Taylor’s family for four generations, and the Taylors are now raising a family of their own as they continue to sweeten the air along Hemlock Street.
