The smaller the store the better the conversation.
But what does that have to do with picking up some fresh raspberries or bananas or bacon and organic family farm eggs for tomorrow’s breakfast?
Nothing embodies authentic appeal better than a ten-minute visit to one of our grocery stores and corner markets. Visitors shopping for a picnic or putting together a bonfire menu on the fly can easily get a friendly suggestion from whoever is within earshot. Full-time and part-time residents stocking up on needed supplies rub shoulders and pick up or pass along the latest news.
No big brassy neon signs or major corporate logos here. Just community bulletin boards smothered with event flyers and of course faded business cards from area businesses. How about a covered porch out front with benches labeled “Republicans only” and “Democrats only”?
Don’t forget to pick up fresh seafood or locally produced bread. Oh, plus an extra stack of firewood; it’s over there back by the dog food and kite kits.
