CANNON BEACH, Ore. – On Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 7:00 p.m., the Cannon Beach History Center & Museum welcomes Oregon author and Professor Dr. Doug Deur for a presentation on the history of coastal tribes. Deur will also be sharing his latest book, “Empires of the Turning Tides.” Published by the National Parks Service, his book illuminates the history of the many people who have called this region home and their relationship with the park landscapes, waters, and natural resources that continue to set the Columbia-Pacific region apart. The book will be available for purchase. The purchase will be donations directly to the museum.

Dr. Douglas Deur is a cultural geographer, known widely for his studies of Native American land and resource tradition, as well as the environmental and cultural histories of National Parks in the American West.  He is a resident of Arch Cape and local history guru.  In addition to everything else that Deur does, he serves as research professor in the Department of Anthropology at Portland State University and an adjunct professor in the University of Victoria (BC) school of Environmental Studies.
