Arnold has decided he’s going to move to Russia. Barry thinks he’s a golf pro. Norman can’t stop eating donuts and Lucien is concerned that they don’t have any trees. These men are all roommates and they all have special needs. They’re looked after by Jack, the caretaker. Written with humor and compassion, The Boys Next Door, by Tom Griffin, is a series of vignettes that together form a charming and moving picture of life, friendship and challenges. Mingled with scenes from the daily lives of these four, where “little things” sometimes become momentous (and often very funny), are moments of great poignancy when, with touching effectiveness, we are reminded that the disabled, like the rest of us, want only to love and laugh and find some meaning and purpose in the brief time that they, like their more fortunate brothers and sisters, are allotted on this earth.
