Art in Action
Tickets are selling fast for our annual Art in Action Dinner and Auction. The event was born from the previous Quick Draw and Auction. The artists no longer have to create a piece of art from scratch in an hour or less: They can take as much time as they like to craft a wonderful work of art and then put the finishing touches on during the event itself. This truly enhances the quality of the artwork available for purchase during the Art in Action event. We have eight amazing artists representing many of our local galleries for the festival this year. They include: Gary Wahlbeck, Heather Soderberg, Janis Ellison, Hazel Schlesinger, Rob Hooper, Blue Bond, Christopher Mathie, and Jeffrey Hull. Come see their marvelous works of art, watch them complete their pieces, and take a moment to chat with them in person.
New this year is the gifting of three separate $500 scholarships for kids in our community. The Chamber of Commerce and the Stormy Weather Arts Festival have decided it is important to give back to our future artists. We are giving scholarships to:
The Coaster Theatre Playhouse - Coaster Kidz camp focuses on three common aspects of theater arts: Acting, singing, and dancing. In addition to improving confidence and creativity, campers learn teamwork, respect and use unlimited imagination while creating a show of their own.
Cannon Beach Arts Association - The Cannon Beach Arts Association is pleased to offer an Annual Summer Art Camp in July. With 87 students attending 12 classes, the 13th Annual Summer Art Camp was a hub of activity at the Cannon Beach Community Church over the week of July 13. The class schedule is currently under development for 2016. A few favorites will be returning this year, including Ireta Sitts-Graube’s watercolor class for younger children and Karen Meili’s Kids Yoga class.
Sea Ranch Resort Annual Music Camp - At this fun and exciting two-day music camp kids will learn how to write, perform and record their very own original songs and make their own MP3s. Professional musicians, Aaron Meyer & Tim Ellis, show kids how to turn their ideas into real songs, which they will perform and record.
Our silent auction during the Art in Action event has grown even bigger this year. We have over 20 art pieces donated by local individuals and galleries. There are more than 15 travel destination packages to choose from and many other gift certificates and items donation by local merchants. Also new this year are special unique hand crafted umbrellas from some of our wonderful artists including: Marianne Post, Bonny Gorsuch, Nancy Norman, Krista Guenther, and the Seaside High School art class. With all these items to bid on, this is a wonderful opportunity to get something special to take home.
Once again the Wayfarer Restaurant will be catering at the Surfsand Resort Ballroom. Included is a beverage of your choice from the full bar with domestic beers and micro brews, Eola Hills Winery & Columbia Winery wines, cocktails, and sodas. If you find a truly enjoyable beverage, you can always purchase additional drinks or a bottle of wine for you and your friends. The heavy hors d’oeuvres buffet will be plentiful with appetizers including: Salami board, glazed turkey breast served with house-made rolls, tossed green salad, hummus & olive tray, baked brie en croute, and pasta salad. And for dessert: Chocolate nut clusters and an assortment of cookies.
To top the evening off, Bucky Potschmidt, one of the north coast’s favorites, will be performing an array of musical styles for your listening pleasure. If you attended last year, you know how wonderful he is. Add Ryan Hull’s fabulous showmanship as Master of Ceremonies, and this will truly be an entertaining evening.
Make your plans now to join us! The Surfsand Ballroom’s doors will open at 7:00pm. Tickets are $55.00
