The tour of homes on Saturday afternoon is the highlight of the weekend, guiding participants through the cottages, dream homes and fairy tale gardens of Cannon Beach with some locations offering music or wine tasting. This year's tour will feature homes in the mid-town section of Cannon Beach where the views of Haystack Rock may just be the best in town.
Visitors can kick off their weekend with live jazz from the R.J. Marx Quartet on Friday evening at the Cannon Beach History Center & Museum's opening reception. Saturday's events begin with a pre-home tour luncheon and talk from prolific Oregon author Bill Sullivan at the Tolovana Inn. Sullivan's award-winning books delve into Oregon's legendary and often strange past. His talk will focus on the history of Cannon Beach, local trails and Governor Oswald West, who was key to Oregon's iconic Beach Bill. After the home tour, the History Center invites participants to put on some dancing shoes and costumes for an evening of beer, wine, bites and a 1920s themed concert with the Honeyville Rascals.
The weekend culminates with an English-style garden tea at the Tolovana Inn on Sunday. Attendees can enjoy teas, cucumber sandwiches and scones while listening to a presentation from gardening professional Lucy Hardiman. A nationally recognized garden designer, Hardiman is the owner and principal of Perennial Partners, a collaborative garden design group in Portland.
The Cottage and Garden Tour functions as the main fundraiser for the History Center and allows them to continue to operate as a donation-based museum, as well as enabling them to offer free lecture series, a field trip program and a seasonal acoustic performance series. The History Center will also offer raffle items including art from local artists and a quilt with the drawing to be held during Saturday evening's reception. Event tickets can be purchased individually or as a weekend package and are available at the Cannon Beach History Center website. For more information, visit the website or call 503.436.9301.
