Market Demographics

Desirable as a place to visit for a day, a weekend, or even for a season (the term “summer cottage” is quite accurate), this popular and affluent Oregon coast resort town doubles somewhat as a retirement community today.

A100-year look back and appreciation of how Cannon Beach has grown and developed over the years is important if one is to discover more about home and ownership in today’s market.

In the late 1920’s, the platting of cheap land parcels into building lots combined with abundant and inexpensive lumber led to a great increase in the number of single-story bungalows. At the time many were constructed solely for late spring through early fall occupancy. Over the following decades, more of the material features of a full-time residences appeared and newer private homes were built to accommodate demand.

Many of the historic (and photogenic) bungalows still exist today and owners take pride in keeping the brilliant gardens and floral terraces ready for viewing. Check out the Cannon Beach History Center to learn more about the annual Cottage Tour.
