Join us at the Cannon Beach History Center & Museum as BELEZA! returns for an afternoon of live jazz inspired by the music of Brazil. This talented duo features acclaimed Pacific Northwest musicians guitarist John Stowell and flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny.
This special summer concert is open to all, with donations welcomed to help support local history and the museum’s mission to remain a free nonprofit museum for the community and visitors alike. Everyone is warmly invited to attend and enjoy the concert.
Guests are invited to enjoy refreshments, explore the museum’s exhibits, and experience our current summer exhibit, Capturing the Coast: A Collective Photography Exhibit, featuring the work of talented regional photographers.
BELEZA! brings together a shared love of bossa nova, samba, and the timeless music of Antônio Carlos Jobim. The name Beleza! (pronounced be‧lé‧zah) comes from the Portuguese word for “beauty,” and is also Brazilian slang meaning “yes” or “it’s a deal.”
Guitarist JOHN STOWELL tours, records, and teaches internationally and has performed with renowned jazz artists including Milt Jackson, Lionel Hampton, Art Farmer, George Cables, Billy Hart, and Dave Liebman. He has also been recognized in the Downbeat International Critics Poll and has contributed to numerous international music publications.
Flugelhornist DMITRI MATHENY, winner of NW Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year honors in the Seattle Golden Ear Awards, has toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. A protégé of jazz legend Art Farmer, Matheny has released 12 albums as a leader and has been praised as “one of the jazz world’s most talented horn players” by the San Francisco Chronicle.
We hope you’ll join us for an inspiring afternoon of music, art, history, and community in Cannon Beach.
