Botanical Cyanotypes Class

Details

Come make your own seaweed cyanotypes! A cyanotype is a photographic blueprint made through a chemical reaction between UV light and chemically coated paper. Cyanotypes have been a form of scientific documentation for seaweed, terrestrial plants, and natural specimens since they were invented in the 1700s and were actually some of the original forms of photographic printing. Come learn about the process and techniques to make cyanotypes using a collection of pressed seaweed and PNW flora. Each student will make 5 prints: 2-8x10, 3-5x7.

Your hosts and teachers will be Sam Block, a woodworker, photographer, and owner of Block Studio, and Alanna Kieffer, a marine biologist, educated seaweed farmer, and owner of Shifting Tides.
