NW Authors Series Presents Tina Ontiveros (Virtual Event)

01/15/2022 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Join us Saturday, January 15th at 2 p.m. for the first NW Authors Series presentation of the new year. The library will host Oregon author Tina Ontiveros. Her award-winning memoir “Rough House” is a story of family, addiction, joy, and adventure set in the rural spaces of the Pacific Northwest. “Rough House” chronicles Ontiveros’ adolescence with her logger father as he constantly migrates, cobbling together shelters for his family, burning bridges, and forever starting over.

Her writings explore class, generational hardship, and the social constructs of poverty. “Rough House” was an October 2020 Indie Next Great Read, spent 20 weeks on the PNBA Bestseller’s List, and was awarded the PNBA Book Award. Her essay, “The Life We Pay For,” was a 2019 top ten most read Oregon Humanities Magazine feature.

Tina Ontiveros is a writer, teacher, and bookseller based in the Pacific Northwest. She has a BA in Literature from Marylhurst University, an MFA in Nonfiction Writing from Goddard College, and worked for over 10 years at Oregon’s oldest bookstore. Tina currently lives in Mt. Hood and teaches writing and literature at Columbia Gorge Community College.
