Details

Join the Cannon Beach History Center & Museum on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. for a virtual presentation with John Kopp, author of CG 41332. This event is part of the museum’s annual John Williams Lecture Series, which runs from October through June.

While this is a virtual-only event, a screening will be held at the museum for those who prefer to attend in person. A link to view from home will be posted on the museum’s website, or you can email info@cbhistory.org to receive it directly.

In CG 41332, Kopp explores the 1977 Coast Guard training accident at Cape Disappointment, the history of the Motor Lifeboat School, and the evolution of surfmen—the elite lifesavers of the U.S. Coast Guard. After serving nine years in the Coast Guard, Kopp transitioned into the mental health field. Today, he blends his therapeutic practice with his service experience, offering psychological insight into the impacts of adversity and the enduring legacy of those who serve. This event is free, but donations are encouraged to help the museum continue offering free educational programming.

The Cannon Beach History Center & Museum is located at 1387 South Spruce Street, Cannon Beach, Oregon. For details, visit cbhistory.org.
