Position Overview:
The Information Specialist plays a vital role in the Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce, serving as a high-profile representative at the Visitor Center. This position requires professionalism, energy, efficiency, and a welcoming personality to interact with visitors and businesses. The role involves responsibility for daily operations at the Visitor Center. Weekend work and participation in Chamber events are required. The position is hourly and involves working closely with the Office Manager, supporting staff, and Executive Director.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
Visitor Center:
• Greet, assist, and direct visitors to local businesses and attractions in a friendly and professional manner.
• Respond to phone and email inquiries promptly and accurately.
• Manage outgoing mail and maintain up-to-date records of visitor interactions (Daily Visitor Center Census).
• Update the weekly planner and ensure relevant information is available to visitors.
• Handle sales transactions and maintain accurate financial records.
• Oversee the general cleanliness of the Visitor Center, including sweeping, cleaning windows, and wiping down counters as needed.
• Ensure the Visitor Center is well stocked with brochures, merchandise, and materials.
• Assist in recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteers for the Visitor Center.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for the Visitor Information Center in the absence of the Office Manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Chamber Events:
• Support Events, including the Sandcastle Contest, Stormy Weather Arts Festival, Haystack Holidays, and other events as assigned.
• Work during events to support volunteers and ensure successful execution of Chamber events.
Community Hall Rental:
• Support administrative tasks related to Community Hall rentals, including drafting proposals, contracts, and letters.
• Assist as needed to provide month-end sales reports and ensure rental compliance with Chamber and City safety standards.
• Coordinate and help to schedule necessary maintenance and cleaning services for the Hall.
• Confirm client compliance with all rental agreements and contracts.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• In-depth knowledge of the Cannon Beach area is required.
• Prior experience in customer service or hospitality, working directly with the public, is essential.
• High School diploma required or equivalent; some college coursework or a degree is a plus.
• Proficiency in office systems, including phone, computer, and copy machines.
• Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, with the ability to create materials in various styles, including business communications and marketing content.
• Strong computer skills, including experience with Office 365, Microsoft Office suite, social media platforms, and Outlook.
• Knowledge of or the ability to learn the Chamber’s website system.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, and as needed for Chamber events with a flexible schedule.
• Obtain an OLCC Server Permit and Food Handler's Card.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
• Residency in Cannon Beach is not required, but preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a part-time position that includes up to 24 hours per week. Pay will depend on experience and range from $14.70-$19.00 per hour.
