New to the festival this year are workshops offered in the week leading up to the festival, offered by four nationally recognized plein air artists. Visitors who come early to the festival can take advantage of a one-, two- or three-day workshop offered by painters Mike Rangner, Anton Pavlenko, Marianne Post and Hazel Schlesinger. These workshops offer a unique opportunity to learn from the artists themselves with a limited number of other participants. Anyone wishing to participate should register in advance to reserve their spot.
The three-day festival weekend opens on Friday with artists creating works throughout the town, on the beach and in nearby settings. Artists continue to work outdoors on Saturday and children can join in the fun with activities just for them. Visitors can enjoy live music in the Coaster Theatre courtyard in the afternoon, then stroll down to the beach at Whale Park at sunset and watch the dramatic Raku firing process as husband and wife team Dave and Boni Deal reveal the wonders of this ceramic art form. Opportunities to meet and mingle with the artists at the individual gallery receptions and watch their works progress will happen throughout the weekend.
