The Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce an opportunity for artists to become the 2025 Artist of the Year. The Artist of the Year program was launched in 2024 with Donald Scott Masterson as the Artist of the Year. The Chamber of Commerce will commission and collaborate with the selected artist to create iconic artwork for two of Cannon Beach’s largest events: the Sandcastle Contest and the Stormy Weather Arts Festival. Additionally, there may be opportunities to produce other pieces of artwork throughout the year.
The artwork for the event posters can be originally crafted in any medium and must be translated into a digital file for reproduction. Event posters are traditionally produced in two editions: Limited Edition 18 by 24 and are numbered and signed by the artist. Open edition: 12 x 18 with the artist's bio and event history on the back. Historically, many artists have crafted their original pieces on an 18 x 24 canvas. However, the previous two Sandcastle Contest artists, Donald Scott Masterson, a 2024 artist, and Miska, a 2023 artist, created 2' by 3' original pieces!
What the Chamber of Commerce is Looking For:
Artists are invited to submit original works that reflect the style and medium they plan to use to create the event posters. The chosen artist's work will be celebrated all year long and prominently featured in all event marketing materials.
Submission Details & Poster Requirements:
- Original Artwork: Submissions must be original pieces with Haystack Rock included in the piece(s)
- Submissions: Include two prototypes, which may be sketches or examples of previous work, to show the style of the work they will produce for the posters. Ideas or examples of the 2025 posters are encouraged.
- Letter of Interest: Include a Letter of Interest, no longer than one page, expressing your interest in being the 2025 Artist of the Year
- Event Posters: The selected artist will create posters for the 61st annual Sandcastle Contest and the 38th annual Stormy Weather Arts Festival in 2025, with the potential for additional artwork needs throughout the year.
- Exposure and Recognition: This is a prime opportunity for artists to showcase their talent at some of Cannon Beach's iconic annual events.
- Rights and Reservations: The Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce reserves the right to reproduce the image for the event purposes.
- Compensation: Compensation for the Artist of the Year will begin at $1000.
Submissions must be received by the Events Committee no later than 5 pm on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024. Submissions can be emailed to Lynn@CannonBeach.org or submitted in person at the Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce and Information Center at 207 N Spruce Street.
