Spring Unveiling Arts Festival
May 3-5, 2024
Each spring, Cannon Beach art galleries collect the latest works from their featured artists to showcase at the Spring Unveiling Arts Festival. That tradition continues this spring over the weekend of May 3-5, 2024. The galleries will welcome some of their most popular artists as guests in the galleries during the weekend or will curate special exhibitions of their latest works.
The 24th annual Spring Unveiling Arts Festival weekend event schedule is listed below. Enjoy a weekend of wandering from gallery to gallery meeting local artists and seeing their lastest work inspired by the coming of spring.
Bronze Coast Gallery
Featured Artists (all in attendance): Bronze sculptor Melissa Copper whose work features birds and other creatures; painter Duy Huynh who portrays ethereal characters in dreamlike settings; and sculptor Crystal Lockwood who creates evocative figures carved into found driftwood. Gallery Schedule: FRIDAY 10 am-6 pm; SATURDAY 10 am - 7 pm (Artists’ Reception 5 pm - 7 pm); SUNDAY 10 am-4 pm; Unveiling schedule to be announced.
Cannon Beach Gallery
Special Exhibit: The gallery will present a special exhibition, titled "Reserve Inspiration" drawing its inspiration from the Oregon Marine Reserves. Through the artistic works, visitors are invited to explore the rich diversity of species and ecosystems within these reserves and foster a deeper appreciation for our relationship with the natural world. This exhibit is supported by the Audubon Society of Lincoln City and the Cannon Beach Arts Association.
Featured Artists: Nora Sherwood, Julie Fiedler, Jill Perry Townsend, and others.
Gallery Schedule: FRIDAY 10 am-4 pm (Reception 4 pm - 6:30 pm); SATURDAY 10 am-4 pm; SUNDAY 10 am-4 pm). The exhibit runs through June 2.
Images of the West
Featured Artist: Internationally renowned landscape and nature photographer Randall J Hodges.
Gallery Activities: Hodges will be in the gallery for the entire weekend. He will be showing new images, telling stories of recent travels, giving free impromptu photo lessons, and showing off the back of his camera while explaining how he captures his stunning images without the need for Photoshop or post-processing.
DragonFire Gallery
Special Exhibit: The gallery will present a group show titled “Being Human” featuring some twenty DragonFire artists, all interpreting the human form in a wide array of aspects, environments, and media.
Featured Artists: Aliza, Breezy Anderson, Wendy Givens, Chuck Gumpert, David Gutschmidt, Deb Houston, Bev Jozwiak, Roberta Lampert, Virginia Leonnig, Mandy Main, Elena Markova, Trifon Markov, Nancy Norman, Michael Orwick, Anton Pavlenko, Linda Petersen, Joanne Shellan, Mike Theisen, Harold Walkup, and Cheryl Waale.
Gallery Schedule: FRIDAY 4 pm - 6 pm - Meet group show artists and see the unveiling of new garden glass designs from Andrew Holmberg, wine and chocolate reception with live music; SATURDAY 11 am - Unveiling of new work, 11:30 am - 3 pm - Group show with artists demonstrating their artistic process and answering questions, 4 pm-7 pm - Artist reception with appetizers, wine and live music provided by Jason Okamoto; SUNDAY 11 am-1 pm - Artist Reception with lite bites.
Jeffrey Hull Gallery
Gallery Activities: Jeff will be around all weekend to unveil his newest work as well as answer your questions and visit with friends both old and new.
Gallery Schedule: FRIDAY 5 pm - Unveiling of new original paintings by Jeffrey Hull followed by Artist’s Reception; SATURDAY 11 am - Unveiling of new prints by Jeffrey Hull with extended evening hours; SUNDAY 10 am - Coffee with Jeff and crew.
Northwest By Northwest Gallery
Featured Artists: Steel sculptor Ivan McLean known for his spheres including monumental installations; painter Laura O'Brien who creates landscapes and architectural scenes often in colorfully detailed contemporary style; painter Kent Suter whose oils capture Haystack Rock; and abstract painter Heather Adamek.
Gallery Schedule: FRIDAY 3 pm - 5 pm - Reception for artists, 5 pm - 7 pm Music by Bobcat Bob on Guitar; SATURDAY 2 pm - 5 pm - Artist's Reception, 5 pm - 7 pm - Music by Bobcat Bob on guitar, a fundraiser for local animal shelter with admission by small donation.
Shearwater Studio & Gallery
Featured Artists: Fiber artist Hilde Morin will be in attendance with a new collection of textile pieces that dance between abstract and realism. Morin’s layered work is inspired by her travels, nature, and multi-cultural background. Also attending will be ceramicist Shane Sjogren with his collection of functional and sculptural pottery. Sjogren draws inspiration from his life along the coast and many of his pieces have hand-carved elements, such as barnacles and textures reminiscent of wave-washed dunes. Resident artist, Drea Frost will be also unveiling new print work, and expect to see pieces from fiber artist- Becky Devries-Wong, local potter AJ Wahl, printmaker Karina Andrews, and more.
Gallery Schedule: FRIDAY - Spring show opens; SATURDAY 5 pm - 7 pm - Gallery reception with artist meet and greet. Refreshments and light snacks. SUNDAY 11 am-1 pm - Mimosas will be served.
White Bird Gallery
Featured Artist: The gallery is featuring Christopher Mathie's new paintings including his well-known expressive seascapes and he will be unveiling a new collection of work focused on figuration, with themes of humans, animals, and birds as subjects. Mathie will be in attendance all weekend for unveilings and receptions.
Gallery Schedule: FRIDAY 4 pm - 6 pm - Spring Show Opens; SATURDAY 10 am - Jewelry Trunk show with local artist Sarah McAllister, 12 pm - 1 pm - Drawing demo with Christopher Mathie followed by unveiling of Mathie's newest paintings, 2 pm - 4 pm - Live Music by Local Guitarist Wes Wahrmund, 5 pm - 7 pm - Gallery Reception; SUNDAY 11 am - 1 pm - Christopher Mathie in attendance at gallery.
