As the Cannon Beach Library plans to celebrate our Centennial in 2027, we’re reminded that there’s a favorite chapter to every story. Perhaps it’s the chapter being experienced now, a chapter once lived, or a future chapter only imagined. This year’s theme for the Cannon Beach Library’s Writers Read Celebration is “My Favorite Chapter.” Look back or envision the years to come: What is your life’s favorite chapter?

In its ninth year, Writers Read offers writers the opportunity to write on a specific theme. All written formats will be considered (essay, story, science fiction, poetry, haiku, etc.). The deadline for submissions is Jan. 21, 2027. Writers of all ages living anywhere are welcome to submit up to two entries. A panel of volunteers will select 12 to 14 works to be read by their authors during the Writers Read Celebration on March 5 in person at the library or via Zoom.

Writers must follow these guidelines:

• Authors are limited to two entries with a 600-word maximum per entry.
• Email entries must be in Word format only.
• Include a separate cover letter with the writer’s name, email and phone number. Do not include the author’s name or contact information on the entry document so authors remain anonymous to the reading panel.
