Dog Friendly Cannon Beach
Bring your human parent and play fetch with tasty pieces of driftwood on miles of sandy beach or spend the day hiking one of the local trails through towering trees and breathing in the lingering scent of raccoons, chipmunks, deer and elk. Take an invigorating swim in the ocean or creek with one of your new doggie buddies, go for a bite at one of many dog friendly restaurant patios and then curl up for some squirrel-chasing dreams in a hotel that loves its canine guests as much as its human ones in Cannon Beach, one of the top doggie destinations in the world.
Cannon Beach is one of the best places to be if you happen to be a canine. As long as you stay within sight of your human and come back when called, you are free to play on the beach off leash, provided you are well behaved and don’t harass other people, wildlife or other dogs. You can take in all the ocean-y smells on the beach, chase sticks or balls and stretch out for a nap in the cool sand. Just remind your human that they should always carry a leash and fresh water if you are going to play for a long time; and that they are responsible for removing your waste!
If you prefer a walk in the woods, there are miles of hiking trails you and your human can enjoy around town. A walk down the nature trail or a trek through the Elk Creek Nature Preserve or on one of several trails in Ecola State Park will give you the opportunity to catch the scent of everything from chipmunks and squirrels to elk and bear. Have your people bring a picnic along and you can take in all those great smells for a bit longer or just enjoy a mid-hike nap.
After your outdoor adventures, an afternoon on the town is highly recommended. Take your human shopping at retail shops and galleries that allow pups, then try out one of at least ten Cannon Beach restaurants that offer pet-friendly outdoor seating. Hydrate along the way at the plentiful water bowls put out for your enjoyment and remind your people to pass the dog treats during dinner. Later, you can relax at one of many local hotels that not only welcome pooches, but also go out of their way to make your stay as good as or even better than your humans'.
If special events are more to your liking, you can tell your people that there are a few key ones that you’ll want to attend each year. Cannon Beach offers a fireworks-free Fourth of July weekend celebration that the whole family will love featuring a fun, small town parade and none of those loud noises that make you nervous! In October, the Dog Show On the Beach is the place to be. All are welcome to participate and categories range from Most Beautiful and Best Bark to Longest Tail and Best Trick.
