6 Tips on How to Warm Up in Cannon Beach
The Oregon Coast is famous for its cool climate, often damp and sometimes stormy, and we wouldn’t wish it any other way. We’re experts in being prepared for whatever the weather brings to Cannon Beach and not missing a moment of the spectacular beauty of this place, whether it’s on a rainy-day hike, a crisp, relaxed beach walk, or when experiencing an epic storm. We’re also experts in how to warm up afterward, and here are a few of our favorite ways to take the chill off.
Cozy up to a Roaring Fireplace
Several spots around town offer toasty fireplaces perfect for cozying up. Many Cannon Beach hotels and resorts provide in-room gas fireplaces that will have you warmed up with the flip of the switch in the privacy of your room. Some vacation rental homes even come with wood-burning fireplaces stocked with firewood inviting you to snuggle up next to the glowing coals and enjoy the aroma that only a crackling wood fire can offer. The lobby fireplaces at Stephanie Inn and Ocean Lodge provide a cozy setting where guests can relax and warm up. And great spots like MacGregor’s, A Whiskey Bar, and the Wayfarer Whiskey Lounge feature blazing fireplaces where you can sip a hot cocktail or glass of wine by the fire.
Get into Hot Water
There might be no better way to warm back up after a brisk day on the beach than with a long soak in a deep hot tub. A few of our luxury resorts offer in-room jetted tubs, some elevated to provide ocean views, and a handful of classic hotels downtown like The Waves, Land’s End, and Schooner’s Cove even feature oceanfront hot tubs where you can take the chill off while still enjoying the soothing sounds of the ocean. In midtown at Hallmark Resort & Spa, you can even try out the hydrotherapy treatment in their Elements by the Sea spa, which features a symphony of lights and six pulsating shower heads offering a rainfall of water or a private room full of steam for detoxification. You can choose this option as a standalone treatment or add it to a luxurious hot stone massage or other therapy for the ultimate in warmth and relaxation.
Warm Up with Classic Chowder or a Hearty Bowl of Soup
Chowder is a Northwest Coast classic, and you’ll find tasty versions at most restaurants around town. You can fill yourself up at the Driftwood Restaurant with a classic clam chowder served in a sourdough bread bowl. At Ecola Seafoods, the atmosphere is uber-casual, but the chowder is delicious, and the seafood cases filled with fresh catch make for the perfect seafood shack experience. For chowder with chef’s flair, Seasons Café offers an herb-seasoned take on creamy and rich Northwest chowder, or you can’t miss one of their rotating soup selections ranging from carrot-curry to Mexican posole or a satisfying chunky steak chili.
Sip on a Spirited Adult Beverage
If you’re like many of us and your preferred method of getting toasty might involve an actual toast, several local spots feature creative cocktails sure to warm up on a brisk day. Downtown at MacGregor’s, A Whiskey Bar, you will find over 200 brown liquors and various flights. You can also try hot cocktails like the Mulled Wine Toddy, a blend of bourbon, allspice dram, orange bitters, cabernet honey, and cinnamon. In Midtown, the super cozy Irish Table offers their take on Irish Coffee in the form of their Tir Na Nog, locally roasted Sleepy Monk Coffee, Irish whiskey, and whipped cream with Irish liqueur. Along the oceanfront in midtown, check out the Wayfarer Whiskey Lounge and enjoy a toasty Black Flag with blackstrap rum, Turkish coffee liqueur, Averna, coffee, Local Public Coast Brewing Co. Stout, and whipped cream.
Savor the Most Chocolatey of Hot Chocolates
For the ultimate in soul-warming decadence, consider sipping some divine hot chocolate at Cannon Beach Chocolate Café. Indulge in some of the richest and most satisfying drinking chocolate you’ll find anywhere; all made with 70 percent Colombian chocolate. Try this velvety indulgence in three versions: dark, milk, or Mayan. While you’re there, pick out some yummy handmade truffles to enjoy alongside your drink or to take and enjoy later.
Take the Chill Off with Hot Coffee
You can soak up our coffee culture at several spots around town and maybe even pick up a delectable sweet treat with your warm beverage. A Midtown Cannon Beach institution, Sleepy Monk Coffee is known for its locally roasted line of organic coffees and freshly baked items that pair with your favorite espresso drink or a flavorful black coffee. You’ll find Seal Level Bakery + Coffee at the south end of town, where they serve up carefully crafted espresso drinks alongside a selection of artisan pastries from their cozy kitchen. Downtown Cannon Beach Bakery has been delighting customers since 1936 with fresh Danish, donuts, and other sweet treats, along with hot coffee and espresso drinks; Insomnia Coffee Co. offers a selection of espresso drinks in a light and art-filled space.
